Acai Cancer Cure

Other Names: Acai berry, Acai palm, Cabbage Palm, Palm Berry
The acai berry was popular in native medicine and was originally discovered by the locals of Brazil. It was used for its healing properties and health benefits.
When researchers authenticate the usage of acai in folk medicine, they discovered more than just a local delicacy. Acai berry was found to have many medicinal and dietary benefits owing to its chemical composition. Apart from the vitamins and amino acids content, the acai berry also contains a high amount of flavonoids and essential fatty acids. On a comparative note, the quantity of flavonoids in acai is higher than that of red wine or other known fruit.
Acai has also proven to help regulate cholesterol levels and is recommended to elderly people with digestive or colon problems. Acai is currently being marketed as a dietary supplement for lowering cholesterol, cardiovascular disease, and allergies.
In recent studies, acai berry is found to have many antioxidant chemicals and hence suspected to be a potential source for minimizing cancer risk. Studies on acai berry were conducted at various research institutes.
According to a study conducted by the University of Florida, acai berry extracts induced death of leukemia cells cultured in vitro. Six different chemical extracts were taken from the acai berry pulp. Each extract was taken in seven different concentrations. Each of the seven concentrations of the six extracts were tested against the leukemia cells. Four extracts were found to have the potential to induce apoptosis.
The extracts taken from the acai fruit were flavonoids (anthocyanins, proanthocyanidins) and fatty acids (oleic acid, palmitic acid, linoleic acid). Procyanidins, protocatechruic acid, and epicatechin were found in the acai seed. Furthermore, the acai berry has an ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) value of 102,700 compared with blueberries (6,552) and apples (3,082).
In other in vitro and in vivo studies, it was shown that acai, aside from inducing apoptosis, has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. It was also found that anthocyanins from acai juice and pulp are absorbed after oral consumption in humans.
However, acai has not been proven to be effective for cancer in humans. Due to its antioxidant effects, acai may also interfere with the actions of certain chemotherapy drugs. There are currently ongoing researches on acai’s anti-cancer properties.

Acai Precaution

Acai berry pulp, acai berry juice, and quality acai supplements are completely free of any negative side effects. However, some increasingly popular acai products contain guarana which contains caffeine. When taking acai products with guarana, be aware of negative side effects of caffeine.
Furthermore, the recent surge in popularity of the acai berry for diet and weight loss purposes has lead to acai being put in all softs of diet pills and weight loss supplements along with other ingredients. The best thing to do is to stick with quality acai-only supplements. This way, you don’t have to worry about harmful ingredients or side effects.
Acai may also interfere with the actions of certain chemotherapy drugs due to its antioxidant effects.
