Dry Skin Brushing - Better Skin Health Methods

Is dry skin brushing a term you have heard before? The practice of massaging and exfoliating the skin using a soft bristled brush has been around for centuries..

Your skin keeps regenerating itself through the removal of dead skin and toxic wastes. Imagine about 2 pounds of this toxic and useless waste being eliminated every single day. You can utilize dry brushing to make sure that the skin can breathe and renew itself properly.

Skin clogged with toxins and dead cells cannot function properly because the toxins are not eliminated. Your skin is going to suffer as a result of this. By getting rid of all the excess waste using dry brushing, the skin is able to benefit from any nutrients introduced on it. Many people exfoliate the skin on their faces regularly, but the truth is that your whole body could do with thorough and regular exfoliation.

Body scrubs are one way of exfoliation and combined with dry brushing, yield even better results. You will need a brush with soft bristles for dry brushing (see picture). This is quite similar to a hairbrush, but it has a longer handle. You are going to brush it all over your skin, with massaging strokes. Many people use gloves when they are dry brushing their skin. Make sure that the skin is dry before you do any dry brushing; the best time to do it is before you take your shower. It takes about 24 hours to create the top layer of your skin. Vigorous dry brushing is going to brush off that layer so that the smoother and softer layer underneath is exposed and can breathe fresh air.

Dry skin brushing helps your blood vessels and lymph nodes

Apart from the removal of the dead cells on your skin and facilitation of the excretion of toxic wastes, dry brushing is also extremely beneficial for your capillaries and lymph vessels.

The strokes should be done towards your heart so that the blood circulation is invigorated. This improvement in blood circulation is why so many people feel extremely refreshed after an energetic session of dry brushing.

Your lymph nodes are also going to get a thorough massage during dry brushing. This is going to encourage them to start functioning. Their duty is to filter and remove all the abnormal cells and organisms trying to invade the body. Having a strong immunity system is going to keep us healthier and make sure that we do not fall sick so often.

Dry skin brushing tips

You will want to keep these tips in mind, before you start a regular dry skin brushing routine.

- Make sure that the dry brushing is done softly in the initial stages so that soreness is avoided. Application of a little more pressure can be done as your skin gets used to dry brushing.

- Do not do any dry brushing over cuts, wounds or rashes.

- The brushstrokes should move towards your heart. It is only when you are dry brushing your stomach that you are going to apply clockwise brushing movements to aid in the digestion process.

- Clean the brush meticulously after every brushing session

- Dry brushing should be done only when the skin is completely dry. Have a shower after dry brushing to get rid of the exfoliated skin.

- Use brushes that have natural bristles like bamboo or harvested wood.

- If your skin is extremely dry, rub some essential oil into it after you have brushed it. Jojoba oil is excellent as a skin softener; it also keeps the pores open.
