Oatmeal scrub - Exfoliate and cleanse

Oatmeal is a potent anti-inflammatory agent, used on every skin type and including sensitive/problem skin type that can react badly to various ingredients. This will not happen when you use oatmeal, it is gentle and neutral.

Chris M sent us an oatmeal scrub recipe, a recipe similar to other oatmeal skin care recipes but different in that it contains a neutralizing ingredient: baking soda.

Oatmeal scrub

A homemade exfoliant for face or feet can be made with three simple ingredients that you already have in the kitchen: oatmeal, baking soda, and water.

Mix together 1 teaspoon of baking soda, and two teaspoons of dry oatmeal. Grind the oatmeal very finely for the face, grind or pound more slightly if you are using it for the feet. Add a few drops of water at a time while throughly mixing the baking soda and the oatmeal until a paste is created. Gently apply to skin and let it set for a moment. Rub gently and rinse off. For the feet, you could apply it to a brush, but direct contact on the skin works best.

It is recommended that you freshly prepare this for each use versus making it ahead and storing it. This way you can customize it for the situation and use, and the paste stays fresh.

To not irritate the skin, choose natural or organic oatmeal versus a leading brand. Some individuals with sensitive skin may find that they have a reaction. It is not the oatmeal itself, but the bleaching and processing that they may have a reaction to. Using as natural as you can eliminates this complaint.
