Creamy, moisturizing lotion bar recipe

This lotion bar recipe is probably one of the best recipes I have seen since starting this site. Sent to us by Sophia, this recipe is so creamy, moisturizing and luscious that it is impossible to resist making it.

Here it goes:

Lotion bar recipe

*When prepared, it is best preserved if kept in the fridge.*

Ingredients

1/2 oz of avocado essential oil
1/2 oz of mango butter
8 oz of cocoa butter
1 oz shea butter
1 teaspoon of calendula total CO2
2 teaspoons of grapefruit seed extract
1/4 oz of aromatics.

Note: Aromatics are aromatic essential oils. Since there are so many you could use, check out the page for ideas. I personally like vanilla and peppermint but that may not be your preference.

Preparation

Combine all the ingredients except calendula and grapefruit seed oil in a double boiler. When everything has melted, remove it from the heat and use a wooden stir stick to stir the mix so it is well combined. Let this mix cool off for 15 minutes or so.

Add the rest of the ingredients and aromatics if you want to.

Using 1 oz candy tray molds or mini-muffin shapes, pour the mix into the molds.

Place in a freezer for 20 minutes. Release the bars from molds and let them rest for a few hours before wrapping them up.

Yields 10 1 oz lotion bars.

This recipe is great for a home spa or massage as these bars are creamy but not greasy. It makes for a wonderful way to indulge yourself after a luxurious bubble bath.

Let's see what we have here as far as the ingredients:

Avocado essential oil is a great moisturizing agent. It helps the aging or dry skin.

Mango is rich in Retinol which helps the skin regenerate collagen and elastin leaving the skin soft and elastic.

Cocoa butter provides a shied over the skin, protecting it from harsh weather conditions and preventing dehydration.

Shea butter is known as a potent emolient, an agent that provides softness to the skin.

Calendula total CO2 has anti-inflammatory properties and it is safe to use on any skin type.

Grapefruit seed oil serves as an astringent and soothing agent.
